Public Sector Partnerships

We work with a large number of public sector partners across Britain. Local Authorities (LAs) and Regional Development Agencies (RDAs) work with us to maintain public towpaths and waterway access points. This recognises that our canals and rivers provide a fantastic public realm for the local community who use them as a traffic-free route to work, for a healthy run or walk, or simply for time out with the family to feed the ducks.

Over the past decade, other public partners such as the Millennium Commission and Heritage Lottery Fund have provided a massive boost to restoration and regeneration projects. These partnerships have opened hundreds of miles of new waterways, which would not have been possible without this support. In addition, Landfill Tax Credits, European funding, Local Authorities, Defra, the Scottish Executive and Regional Development Agencies have all made major contributions to supporting waterway restoration and regeneration.
